West Bengal minister and actor-theatre personality Bratya Basu, today while attending a function to felicitate a US-based young Indian film maker, said it is not important from where a film is being made these days.
"Whether I make a film sitting in Kolkata or in Los Angeles is not that important in the present age. I can make a film from any place in the present technology-driven era and this has expanded the horizon of cinema," Basu said at a discussion on 'Future Business of Media Production - Short Films, Theatre, Web series' here at the MCCI Ladies Forum.
Basu, who is in charge of the Information Technology and Electronics department, did not agree to a view expressed in the discussion that film makers from Bengal are not getting global exposure and are stuck by regional boundaries.
"From Kolkata to Los Angeles, the current trend is to make short films with many well-known film makers," he said.
With Kolkata-girl and young short film director from Los Angeles Kankana Chakraborty talking about her works, which also focused on the torture of girls in the land of Durga and Kali, Basu pointed out "She is speaking on her work on the Environment Day, which talks about protecting nature and we all know the relation between women and nature."
Kankana is the recipient of Best Woman Film Maker Award at the Hollywood Boulevard Film Festival.
West Bengal minister for Consumer Affairs and Self-help group Sadhan Pandey dwelt on the role of MCCI Ladies Forum in highlighting issues of women and projecting young women achievers in different fields.
