Shouting slogans, the protesters, a large number of them women, marched through the main streets of the city and reached the district collectorate.
They were also carrying placards with messages denouncing the movie and calling for a ban on it for allegedly "distorting" historical facts.
A delegation consisting of members from the outfits which took part in the demonstration later submitted a memorandum to the Maharashtra government, through the district collector, seeking a ban on the controversial film.
Various groups, most of them from the Rajpur community, have accused Bhansali of "distorting" historical facts in the film which features Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh.
Bhansali, however, has said in the past that the film is his tribute to the "sacrifice, valour and honour" of Rani Padmavati. He has also said there is nothing in the film that will hurt anyone's sentiments and sensibilities.
Nearly a dozen organisations took part in the morcha. These included the Karni Sena, the Rajasthan Rajput Parishad, the Rudra Pratishtan and the Hindu Ekta and the Agrawal Samaj.
