"TMC wants free and democratic election in the constituency..People want a democratic election..The election commission should fulfill the wish of the people," he told reporters here.
Expressing concern about the way the byelection is being held, he said "It is for those in the fray to say if a democratic election is being held in the constituency now."
The TMC leader was here on a membership drive camp and vehicle rally.
He said a clear picture about membership would emerge during the consultative meeting of the party functionaries at Chennai on February 12.
