The writer assured a fan on Tumblr that the adaptation of his classic series 'The Sandman' is still in the works, reported Digital Spy.
The movie was not listed as part of Warner Bros' recently unveiled DC Comics film schedule.
"It's not a DC Comics film," said Gaiman. "It's a Vertigo film. That's a different slate of films, and a different announcement."
Vertigo is the creator-owned imprint of DC Comics, and the home of popular series including American Vampire, Fables, Hellblazer, Transmetropolitan, The Unwritten and Y: The Last Man.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt is in line to produce and direct 'The Sandman'.
