DMDK leader Vijayakanth today alleged that Sivaganga district from where Finance Minister P Chidambaram was elected to Lok Sabha eight times, remained a stretch of wasteland of 'Karuvelam' (Acacia) trees and asked people not to vote for Congress.
Campaigning for H Raja of BJP here, he said he would not sleep till AIADMK and Congress were sent out of the state.
DMK, AIADMK and Congress were in power for such a long time, but the district faced drinking water problem and lacked good road facility, Vijayakanth said and criticised Chief Minister Jayalalithaa for not being aware of the road conditions in the district.
Both Chidambaram and AIADMK were blaming each other for the state of affairs and it was time both were defeated because they did not do anything to provide employment for youths, he said.
Claiming that youths remained jobless in the constituency, he said the Finance Minister visited the constituency only to open ATMs and bank branches. People were not benefitted by both, he added.
He claimed Chidambaram had promised to make Sivaganga another Singapore, but the reality was that it remained backward.
Backing Narendra Modi for the post of Prime Minister, Vijayakanth said he had the capacity to improve the lot of the poor.
DMDK, along with Vaiko-led MDMK and PMK founded by S Ramadoss and IJK and KMDK - two local parties - have joined BJP-led NDA in Tamil Nadu.
