Four policemen were injured in the clashes and admitted to civil hospital for treatment, they said.
Two police buses were set on fire and several other vehicles, including private ones, were damaged by villagers of Satroad Khas and Satroad Kalan, who also pelted stones at the police, they said.
Police used canes to disperse the irate villagers, the officials said.
The villagers were protesting the government's decision to construct water works tank on 'gocharan' (a common land for grazing animals) in Satroad village.
The villagers tried to go to local Mahavir Stadium where Chief Minister Bhupender Singh Hooda was slated to lay the foundation stone of the water works tank. Police foiled their plans to show black flags to Hooda by stopping them outside the village.
They also damaged several vehicles on the Hisar-Delhi national highway in village Satroad and blocked the road. On an assurance from Deputy Commissioner M L Kaushik, they lifted the blockade.
