Amid controversy, actor-cum-producer Kamal Haasan's Vishwaroopam was released in multiplexes across Gujarat. Multiplex owners' association said that there was no disturbance during the screening of the film on the first day of release.
They further said that the film also did not elicit much response from the people, despite the hype it had created across the nation over its controversial scenes.
"The film's Hindi version was screened in as many as 40 screens across Gujarat. However, there was not much response from the people on the first day," said Manubhai Patel member of the Gujarat Multiplex Owners' Association.
The decision to release the film in Gujarat was taken at meeting of the distributors in Mumbai which went on till late in the evening, said Patel.
Screening of Hassan's movie was banned in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, after Muslim organisations started protesting against the movie.
Haasan had claimed early this week the loss incurred due to delay in releasing his movie Vishwaroopam would be around Rs 30-60 crore. In heat of the moment the actor also said that he will consider leaving the country, if ban on the film was not lifted. However, the next day he took back his words saying he did not mean it.
