The only exception was in 1992 when K R Narayanan secured 700 of the 701 valid votes against Kaka Joginder Singh aka 'Dhartipakad' who got only one vote.
According to Wikipedia, textile owner Dhartipakad contested and lost over 300 elections in India.
According to the EC 'backgrounder' on vice presidential polls, outgoing Vice President Hamid Ansari bagged 490 votes in the 2012 polls against BJP's Jaswant Singh.
In the 2007 polls, a triangular contest, Ansari got 455 votes.
In today's election, 68-year-old Naidu got 516 votes out of the total 771 votes cast while Gopalkrishna Gandhi could only manage 244 votes. Of the total 771 votes polled, 11 were found to be invalid.
Although 785 MPs were eligible to vote in today's election, 14 MPs could not vote.
The strength of the electoral college comprising both elected and nominated MPs of the Rajya Sabha (RS) and the Lok Sabha (LS) is 790. There are two vacancies each in the LS and RS.
