As several parts of Maharashtra re hit by drought, Governor K Sankaranarayanan today appealed to the private sector to join hands with the state government to find sustainable solutions to address water scarcity issue.
Efforts are needed to reduce the state's vulnerability to drought by employing better use of land and water and improve crop pattern, Sankaranarayanan said "water is going to be the most precious commodity in the world".
The Governor was speaking after inaugurating the polio eradication campaign at Raj Bhavan today, organised by the Aditya Birla Group in association with the Rotary International and Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).
Many parts of Maharashtra, especially Marathwada, are reeling under severe drought.
The Governor asked the private sector organisations to shift their focus to parched regions and replicate successful models like that of Ralegan Siddhi village and others to tackle scarcity.
Expressing satisfaction over no single incidence of polio being reported in the country for the last two years, Sankaranarayanan said "India is on the verge of being declared a polio-free country".
