Bus operators today demanded a fare hike within a week from the West Bengal government failing which it would call a 48-hour strike from August 19.
"Since the last fare hike, the diesel price has increased nine times. We cannot run our buses by incurring huge losses. So we have demanded a bus fare hike within the next one week or else we will go on a 48-hour bus strike from August 19," said Sadan Das, General Secretary, Joint Council of Bus Syndicate, one of the largest bus operators in the state.
Das said "Since the last diesel price hike we repeatedly requested the state government to increase the bus fare, but our requests have gone unheard.
