"India exports shrimp, mainly black tiger prawns, worth over Rs 1000 crore. A major consignment has been rejected by the Japan government, substantial quantity of which was from West Bengal", Banerjee said expressing concern for the state's fishermen.
Sharma, she said, has assured her to look into the matter and take appropriate steps in this regard.
Reportedly Japan, like the EU, has imposed strict standards for import of shrimp from India following the alleged presence of banned antibiotics in some consignments.
