State Industries Minister Partha Chatterjee told reporters that the government in a cabinet meeting today decided to pass the West Bengal Prohibition of Audio and Video Piracy Ordinance to curb the menace of piracy.
"For quite some time we have been receiving complaints about piracy from various personalities in the film and music industry," Chatterjee said.
According to the minister, those arrested under the Ordinance will face imprisonment ranging from three to seven years and have to pay a penalty between Rs 25,000 to Rs one lakh.
