WCD Ministry to have website to track missing children

The Women and Child Development Ministry will soon have a website to track missing children and help rescue them as part of efforts to deal with the problem of exploitation of children.
"We are in the process of developing the website for tracking the missing children for their ultimate rehabilitation and repatriation," Women and Child Development Minister Krishna Tirath said here today on the occasion of World Child Labour Day.
The child tracking system will help in the effective implementation and monitoring of child protection services, she said.
"This way we can develop a comprehensive, intergrated and live database for children living in difficult circumstances and resources available to them," she said.

Talking on the issue of child labour with focus on domestic child labour, she said that emilmination of child labour is essential for promoting children's right to education, protecting them from exploitation and ensuring their overall growth.
A 'joint statement' of National Commission for Protection of Child Rights', ILO and UNICEF, released at the event pressed for a roadmap for achieving the ultimate goal of making the country child labour free up to 18 years through pregressive legislation and policy reforms.
It also called upon all government, UN agencies, bilateral and multilateral, civil society groups and citizens to facilitate the realisation of the Right to Education for every child and ensure that all children complete at least secondary education.

It also emphasized the need for strict enforcement of Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act, 1896 and action against errant employers and perpetuators.
