"Violence might be adopted in dictatorial regimes, but it has no place in a democracy. A vote is the mightiest weapon to change the mightiest," Singh said adding, the Centre wants to take on the Maoist challenge in a "balanced way".
"Abjure violence, and we are ready for talks... We want an early solution to the problem," Singh told a press conference here.
After chairing a review meeting on left wing extremism which was attended by Chief Minister Hemant Soren, the Union Home Minister said the state government has already put forth some difficulties it has been facing in its efforts to root out extremism.
Singh, who visited a CRPF camp at Thalkobad in West Singhbhum district of the state during the day, said, "It is not the situation now in Saranda, where the Maoists had earlier claimed a liberated zone."
"I saw the CRPF jawans in Saranda. It is good to know how the jawans have established a good rapport with the local people," Singh said.
