Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath on Tuesday said his government would think of increasing the Local Area Development fund of the state's MLAs, despite the Congress government inheriting "empty coffers" when it came to power in December last year.

He was responding to a demand by BJP MLAs Sudesh Rai, Vishwas Sarang and Rameshwar Sharma during Question Hour.

"Though we got empty coffers, we will still take a call on the issue by discussing with the Leader of Opposition and other senior members," Nath said, adding that elected representatives should be able to work carry out public welfare works.

An official said each MLA gets Rs 2 crore per year to carry out such works in his constituency.
