HRD minister Smriti Irani today assured a delegation of students and teachers of Delhi University that she will re-look into the four year undergraduate programme that was launched during the last academic session and had triggered much controversies.
The assurance came after the delegation submitted a memorandum to her demanding the scrapping of the four-year undergraduate programme and sacking of Vice Chancellor Dinesh Singh, who initiated the programme.
The four-year education programme had kicked up a massive controversy last year with several political parties also joining the students in their protest and making representations to the Prime Minister also.
One of the delegation members, who met the minister, said that she shared their concerns and assured that keeping all aspects in mind, she will have a re-look into the running of the programme.
She was told by the delegation that the four-year undergraduate programme was against the spirit of the Constitution and laws governing the Varsity.
The minister also said that she will ask the VC to hold talks with the teachers, which was not taking place for some time now, the delegation members informed.
Irani also assured the delegation that she would be holding wide ranging discussions with various stakeholders.
The delegation included students bodies like All India Students Association, All India Democratic Student Organization and Delhi University Teachers' Association. They held a demonstration outside Shastri Bhavan before meeting the minister.
