This time the NPF candidate was Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio. The NPF's victory margin came down to 4,00,225 votes as against the 4,83,003 votes of 2009, a decrease of 82,778 votes.
Rio defeated Congress candidate K V Pusa in the parliamentary poll.
A senior legislator of NPF had claimed that the win is bigger as per the votes polled percentage, but even that too is 68.7 per cent while in 2009 it was around 69.96 per cent.
Of the 13 Lok Sabha polls held in the state, Congress has won five times while the rest have gone in favour of regional parties.
