The 26-year-old rapper, whose real name is Cameron Thomaz, walked through a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) checkpoint and was stopped by an agent at the El Paso International Airport yesterday for carrying marijuana, local authorities stated, said The Hollywood Reporter.
"The TSA Officer learned that Thomaz did not have any identification which led to him being sent for secondary screening," the police statement read.
"During that screening the TSA Officer located a metal container inside of the backpack which contained a prohibited item," it read further.
During his time in detention, Khalifa tweeted photos from the holding area with captions, "Jail Selfie" and "Free Trap Wiz."
On Saturday, the rapper performed as a headlining artist at the Neon Desert Music Festival in downtown El Paso.
