Woman abandons new born, comes back to claim it

: Upset on coming to know her fifth child also was a girl, a woman abandoned the infant at Tirumangalam Government hospital after cutting its umblical cord around midnight, but came back again today to claim it, police said.
They said the 26-year-old woman of Keezhakottai village near Tirumangaam was married seven years ago and was hoping to get a male baby in her fifth pregnancy.
She was admitted to the hospital yesterday and delivered the child at midnight. The woman was upset when doctors told her it was a girl child and when she was along, cut its umblical cord, left it at the hospital complex and went away.

Hospital staff were shocked to find her missing and put the infant in the special ward and took care of it, said Dr.Boominathan, the Medical officer.
Meanwhile the woman, chastised by her relatives for her act, came back to the hospital and claimed the baby, police said.
