Woman, daughter attempt self immolation

: A woman and her daughter today attempted to commit suicide by setting themselves ablaze on the premises of District Collectorate over a disputed piece of land, police said.
They said Rajeswari and her daughter had come to the Collectorate to meet officials, saying that some persons were trying to grab their land. They suddenly doused themselves with kerosene from a can they were carrying and tried to set themselves ablaze,but were overpowered by police.
Rajeswari claimed she was running a petty shop at Kalapatti near the airport for the last 15 years and that some persons had suddenly put up a board, stating that it belonged to the Government, police said.

As there was no response from the administration to her pleas, she had no other go but to end their lives, as they did not have any other means to eke the livelihood,she said.
