A 28-year-old woman committed suicide today after pressure was put on her allegedly by her husband and other family members to withdraw a case against her brother-in-law, accused of trying to rape her in Uttar Pradesh's Muzaffarnagar district, the police said.
The brother-in-law allegedly attempted to rape the woman last Thursday, when her husband was not present at the house in Alawalpur village, 28km from here, a police officer said.
After the woman filed an FIR, the accused was arrested under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, the officer said.
Later, she was being allegedly pressurised by her husband and in-laws to withdraw the case, following which, she committed suicide by consuming poison, he said.
She was rushed to a hospital in serious condition, where she was declared dead, he added.
