Woman intervenes in PIL on allotment of flats from CM's quota

In a fresh development in a PIL challenging illegal multiple or double allotment of flats from Chief Minister's discretionary quota, a woman today sought to intervene seeking a direction to Maharashtra government to furnish a list of such allottees.
Shobha Bagwe filed an intervening application in the PIL filed by activist Ketan Tirodkar challenging double allotments from CM's quota.
She urged that the earlier order of the high court, asking the state government to give a list of double allottees, should be furnished to the court.
However, Justices P V Hardas and P N Deshmukh asked the intervenor to serve a copy of her application to the government and posted the matter for hearing on November 26.

Earlier, the court had directed the state to furnish a list of those who were allotted houses from Chief Minister's discretionary quota for more than once or to other members of their family. However, the state government has not yet submitted the list.
Tirodkar alleged that there were several cases where a second allotment was made to the same allottee or to the allottees' spouses or their family members.

The PIL alleged that politicians and journalists were main beneficiaries of such allotments and that "resourceful" people were allotted flats at concessional rates from the quota while the needy and common people are ignored.

Tirodkar gave examples of journalist couples who had been allotted adjacent flats and also cited names of some politicians and their kin who were given flats from the CM's quota.
The petitioner annexed to the PIL a reply under the Right To Information (RTI) Act, which he received from the state government which included names of allottees from 1989 to 2010. However, it did not contain names of double or multiple allottees.
