Woman raped on pretext of marriage in UP

A woman was allegedly raped by a youth on the pretext of marriage under Philkhana police station area here, police said today.
The woman, who works at an incense stick firm, complained that Golu alias Wasim raped her after promising to marry her, a police spokesperson said.
When the accused impregnated her, she asked him for marriage but Wasim tried to postpone it, the spokesperson said.
The woman, aged about 25 years, told police that the accused had phoned her around five months ago, introducing himself as Golu Shukla. The two then started talking frequently and became friends.
Last night, when the woman along with her family members reached the residence of the accused in Patkapur area, they learned from his neighbours that his real name was Wasim, the spokesperson said.

Based on the girl's complaint, an FIR was registered against the accused, they said.
Medical examination of the girl is being carried out, they said.
Senior Superintendent of Police Shalabh Mathur said the accused was arrested this morning and the matter is being probed.
