A Dalit woman, who stayed away from her husband's house for about two years because it did not have a permanent toilet, returned today as her demand was fulfilled.
"I am happy that my husband has finally constructed the toilet in the house after agreeing to my demand. Now I am returning home," Savita, 27, told PTI on phone from Bagli town.
Savita, who has studied up to class V, took the bold step of walking out of the house as her husband Devkaran Malviya (30) was not ready to have a permanent toilet at their house in Mundlana village, about 75 km from here.
They are married for seven years.
She left the house along with with her two kids and was living with her parents. She also filed a case against the husband at a court at Bagli, seeking maintenance.
Magistrate Jayant Sharma, after learning the cause of the discord, tried to bring about a reconciliation. During the court's mediation, Devkaran agreed to construct a toilet by January 10.
Savita's lawyer, advocate Praveen Choudhary, said the toilet was now in place, and the couple left for the matrimonial home straight from the court today.
Interestingly, social organisation Sulabh International built another toilet in the house, after reading about the case.
So now the Malviya house boasts of not one but two pucca toilets.
