The man, Sohan Lal Chouhan, allegedly feared the possibility of the wife having extramarital relationship, the woman told the police.
Chouhan, booked under section 326 (causing grievous hurt) and 498 A (subjecting married woman to cruelty) of IPC, was arrested yesterday, said Sanyogitaganj station in-charge Shailendra Srivastava.
The bizarre tale came to light when the woman, resident of Musakhedi area, consumed pesticide after Chouhan allegedly tried to rape the couple's elder daughter two days ago.
She was admitted to MY Hospital. During the treatment, while trying to insert a tube to extract the poison, the doctors were stunned to see the crude surgery, performed with the intention of "locking" the genitals.
The matter was then reported to the police and the woman filed an FIR. She was married to Chouhan when she was only 16. Four years ago, he pierced her private parts with needles and put a 'lock', said the FIR.
Police said that Chouhan, addicted to ganja and alcohol, was always suspicious, and used to keep his wife locked in the house.
Quoting hospital authorities, police said the woman was now out of danger and was being treated further.
