Police today registered a case against an MLA of the ruling BJD, Prashant Jagadev, on charge of assaulting a woman officer, who was on duty, in Odisha's Khurda district.
"We have registered a case on the basis of an FIR from the woman Tehsildar of Bolagarh. The case is registered at Begunia police station," said Khurda SP Manoranjan Mohanty.
He said the complainant, Niharika Nayak, in her FIR, alleged that she was injured as the MLA had "hurled an object" at her during an altercation over an eviction drive at Ekadalia village.
She had filed the FIR before the Khurda SP last evening in the presence of members of the OAS Officers Association (OASOA).
The decision of filing the complaint was taken at a meeting of OASOA yesterday.
Meanwhile, BJD spokesman SN Patro said law will take its own course and police were free to take action after investigation.
