Woman thrashes aged mother with broom, arrested

A woman, who was caught on camera thrashing her 75-year-old mother with a broom, was today arrested along with her husband near here, police said.
Police arrested Chandramathy and her husband Govindan this morning at Payannur after a video clip of the assault went viral on the social media yesterday.
A case was registered against them under various sections of the IPC including 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt) and 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means) on a complaint filed by Chandramathy's brother, police said.
Police said the elderly woman was ailing from severe memory loss and her daughter had thrashed her angered over her bedwetting.

Someone had captured the incident on a mobile phone, they said, adding that when police personnel went to seek details, Chandramathy told them it was the duty of sons to look after the mother, not that of a daughter.
Police have shifted Karthiyani Amma to a taluk hospital.
