Won't review decision not to support AAP: Cong

The Congress today insisted that it will not review its decision not to support the Aam Aadmi Party in forming a government in Delhi again amid reports that a number of its MLAs were open to such a move to avoid fresh election anytime soon.
Congress has already announced that it will prefer election then supporting the Aam Aadmi Party to form a government in Delhi. A resolution to this effect was passed at at meeting of MLAs and ex-MLAs on June 1.
"We will not support AAP and there is no question of reviewing the earlier decision to not support it. No party MLA has approached the leadership asking for supporting AAP," chief spokesperson of DPCC Mukesh Sharma said.

Sources in the party said at least four of the Congress' eight MLAs were in favour of extending support to AAP so that they do not have to face elections again.
The AAP had won 28 seats in its debut Assembly elections in December last year but its strength came down to 27 after it expelled Laxmi Nagar MLA Vinod Binny from the party.
The BJP along with its ally Akali Dal's one seat had 32 MLAs in the 70-member Assembly. However, its strength came down to 28 after three of its MLAs -- Harsh Vardhan, Pervesh Verma and Ramesh Bidhuri -- resigned as MLAs following their election to the Lok Sabha.

The Congress has eight MLAs.

The sources said majority of Congress MLAs are of the opinion that the party should offer support to AAP to stop BJP from coming to power. They think in case of fresh election, it will be difficult for them win the elections again as there has been a strong wave in favour of BJP.
The Kejriwal-led government resigned on February 14 after the party's pet project - the Jan Lokpal Bill - could not be passed due to opposition from the BJP and the Congress.
After the AAP drew a blank in the Lok Sabha polls in Delhi, the party had expressed interest in forming the government again with Congress support. However, the Congress had ruled out supporting it again.

Sources said though the Congress has officially taken a stand of not supporting the AAP, there has been back channel talks between the two parties.
A section in the Congress feels that the party's vote share shifted to the AAP in Assembly as well as Lok Sabha polls and supporting it would cause further damage to the party.
Some BJP legislators were also of the view that the party should try to form the government in Delhi. However, the top brass of BJP did not support it.
