"The government is developing or planning to develop five industrial corridors in the country," Commerce and Industry Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said in a written reply to the Rajya Sabha.
The Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC) covers Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Maharashtra.
"Out of 24 investment nodes identified for development, eight industrial cities have been taken up for development in the first phase of DMIC project," Sitharaman said.
She said that clearances from other bodies like municipal and/or local bodies are obtained as part of notification of the master plan.
Sitharaman said that Implementation works are initiated only after notification of master plans and environment clearance.
Other industrial corridors are at initial stages of implementation, the Minister said.
Nodes have also been identified under the Chennai Bengaluru Industrial Corridor (CBIC), which covers Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka.
The other corridors include Bengaluru Mumbai Economic Corridor (BMEC), Amritsar Kolkata Industrial Corridor (AKIC) and East Coast Economic Corridor (ECEC).
Replying to a separate question, Sitharaman said government, through the Spices Board, provides assistance to the turmeric growers for installing turmeric polishers under the Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture [MIDH].
"During 2016-17, no financial assistance has been provided to the farmers in the turmeric growing areas of Tamil Nadu, as of now," she said.
