Congress leader Janardan Dwivedi today said that posts and positions have been worshipped enough in the party and society and now virtues and qualities should be worshipped.
"Worship of post and position has been done enough. Now start worshiping virtues and qualities, be it in the party organisation or any other area of the society," the AICC General Secretary said.
Addressing a public gathering during the unveiling of a statue of former Gujarat Governor Nawal Kishore Sharma by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Dwivedi said the society will benefit by giving up the practice of worshipping posts and positions.
The act of support and rejection, honour and negligence should be based on the qualities, he added.
Referring to the qualities of Nawal Kishore Sharma, who had died in 2012, Dwivedi said one should not compromise with self-respect.
"A man's real test is in difficult times. If we bow for personal or immediate gain before power, it hurts the big aim," he said.
Dwivedi said that Sharma, with whom he worked in the party, was strong during at the times of trouble.
"Sharma also had difficult phases in life but he always took decisions after judging the right and wrong and remained firm in his decision. Like him, we should also not compromise self-respect," he said.
Former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot expressed solidarity with Manmohan Singh over the court summon to Singh in coal scam.
"A controversy was created two days back. But nothing has left to say after so many comments by Congress leaders and others," Gehlot said.
