Vedanta Group firm Sesa Sterlite today said it recycled 44 million cubic meters (MCM) of water in India, Australia and Africa during 2013-14 financial year through its subsidiaries.
The group recognises the value of water as an increasing global concern and is conscious of the impact of its use in mining, smelting and refining and at their power plants, the company said in a statement.
"We recycled 44 MCM of water, which is 24 per cent of water requirement in our operations. None of the natural water sources are affected by the company's water withdrawal as all operations withdraw less than 5 per cent of the source," said Vedanta Group CEO Tom Albanese said.
The subject of water management is considered pivotal in the decision-making process of new and existing projects, the company added.
Sesa Sterlite said total water saving for the year amounts to 2.52 MCM.
