Young female hyena thrashed by villagers, rescued

A four-year-old female hyena, which was critically injured after being chased and thrashed by a group of villagers on the outskirts of Agra, has been rescued.
The animal was rescued from Agra by a joint team of forest department and a wildlife response unit.
The hyena had wandered into a field, presumably in search of food and water. When it was spotted by a group of villagers they started chasing it and later thrashed it with bamboo sticks and tied its limbs, said Kartick Satyanarayan, co-founder of Wildlife SOS.
"I received a call from the local police and immediately alerted the Wildlife SOS rescue team about the incident. We also dispatched our own team of forest officials to assist Wildlife SOS in the rescue operation," Divisional Forest Officer (Agra) K K Singh said.

A three-member rescue team along with a few forest department officials were deployed at the location for the rescue operation.
"The hyena was in an extremely critical state when it arrived at our centre. The animal has sustained multiple wounds and has lost its vision due to severe head trauma. We are presently treating her external injuries and will perform an X-ray to check for internal damage," veterinarian Illayaraja said.
