The victim, identified as Hemant, bought a ticket for Rajiv Chowk from Malviya Nagar metro station and as a metro train approached the platform, he jumped before it, they said.
"The metro driver applied brakes but before the train could stop, Hemant was stuck between metro and the platform. His legs were crushed in the incident," police said, adding, he was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital where he was declared dead.
Hemant, a resident of Sangam Vihar, was mentally disturbed due to some family discord which prompted him to take the extreme step, police said, adding, he was unemployed and used to live with his family.
His identity was established with the help of documents which he was carrying after which his family members were informed about the incident, police said.
The victim's father and brother reached the hospital and told police that Hemant was suffering from depression.
"No suicide note was recovered from his possession," police said.
