A Zambian national has been held at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) here for allegedly attempting to smuggle out narcotic drugs worth Rs 1.4 crore.
Officials said the incident occurred yesterday when CISF sleuths detected suspicious movements of a flier identified as Zambian Mwenda Paul, who arrived at the airport terminal to board a flight to Addis Ababa.
They said Paul was chosen for detailed frisking after which about 35kgs of the banned drug was recovered from his baggage, cleverly hidden in thigh pads, a cricketing gear.
Paul, who was on a business visa to India, was later handed over to anti-narcotics sleuths who arrested him.
"The estimated value of the drug identified as pseudoephedrine is about Rs 1.4 crore in international market," they said.
