The wholesale debt market (WDM) saw some fall in volumes yesterday with trades totalling Rs 195.66 crore compared with Rs 206.02 crore on Thursday.

The prices moved down a bit, and there were significant trades in the medium term for maturities between five to ten years. The total trade for these papers totalled Rs 40.78 crore. Dealers say these were offered at good prices giving excellent yields. The 11.10 per cent 2003 was traded for Rs 20 crore with a weighted yield of 11.80 per cent. The 11.75 per cent 2003 was traded for Rs 10 crore at a weighted yield of 11.79 per cert. However, the 13.65 per cent 2007 per cent traded at a premium for Rs 3.04 crore giving a weighted yield of 12.28 per cent. The 12.25 per cent 2008 was traded in six deals for Rs 5.29 crore at a weighted yield of 12.29 per cent.

A mixed trend was witnessed in the short end securities. There was a fall in values of the 12.30 per cent 1998 and zero coupon 2000 (series III) counters. The 12.30 per cent gilt was traded for Rs 5 crore giving a yield of 9.98 per cent at five paise lower than the previous day's closing price. The zero coupon float was traded for Rs 5 crore losing three paise.

The zero coupon 1999 saw falling in yields to 10.24 per cent with the prices gaining 2 paise at the close. There were new entries like the 13.65 per cent 1999 and 13.70 per cent 1999 which were traded for Rs 10 crore and Rs 35 crore at weighted yields of 10.19 and 10.74 per cent, respectively.
