The cabinet committee on economic affairs (CCEA) yesterday sanctioned five railway projects costing a total of Rs 900 crore. These include construction of a third line between Bilaspur and Urkura (105 kms) costing Rs 151.53 crore, doubling of Titlagarh-Lanjigarh ( 47 kms)"" Rs 66.61 crore and electrification of Bhubaneswar-Visakhapatnam section ( 443 kms)"" Rs 295.45 crore. Other projects are: electrification of Udhna-Jalgaon section of western railway ( (306 kms)"" Rs 124.46 crore and conversion of Ajmer-Chittaurgarh-Udaipur section metre gauge line to broad gauge ( 300 kms) ""Rs 262 crore. The Bilaspur-Urkura project is designed to cater to growth in traffic by about 18 trains by 2001. The new line will pass through a long industrial belt having coalfields, limestone and dolomite mines besides cement and steel plants. The Titlagarh-Lanjigarh project seeks to connect the east coastline, the Visakhapatnam port and southern regions with the central and northern regions of the country.

The Udhna-Jalgaon electrification project on completion will obviate detention of rolling stock at Jalgaon and Udhna besides offering other benefits like superior haulage by electric locomotives.

The Ajmer-Chittaurgarh-Udaipur project is designed to meet the traffic demand in view of new cement plants becoming operational in Chittaurgarh and to provide BG link to Udaipur.bottom.inc"-->
