HMIL will launch the diesel version of its mid-size car -- Accent -- by August. Speaking at a press conference organised here today, B V R Subbu, Director (Marketing) HMIL said the company will launch the diesel variant of the Accent only when it begins its third shift at the company's plant in Chennai.

A final decision on the launch is scheduled to be taken within the next month, Subbu said.

Hyundai is scheduled to begin its third shift in August this year. The company has already begun trial production of the diesel Accent at its plant. The car will be fitted with a TUD5 1500cc Peugeot engine. Apparently, Zen Diesel also sports this engine.

Hyundai expects to sell 5,000 units of the diesel Accent in the first year of launch, Subbu said.

The company has taken the decision to launch Accent in a diesel version essentially because of increased demand for diesel cars in south India.
