This was the opening statement made by, HUDCO CIVID Mr. V. Suresh. This probably sums up almost every thing that has gone in the-evolution of BUILD TECH'99.

As we move into the next millenium the need for housing is bound to grow by leaps and bound&, In order to cope up with the rising demand a totally new outlook is warranted in the policy making corridors of housing industry. While the construction costs have been increasing at much higher pace and they have not been able to match the income levels, the affordability of housing even for the middle income group has become difficult. The releavance of cost effective building material is now into much more focus than ever before.

All this and much more is the focus of HUDCO Build Tech'99 being organised currently in the hall no. 15 of the IITF99. It presents the widest possible congregation of innovative building material and technology options Linder one roof. It includes technologies that are evolved and tested by I some very prestigious names both institutional as well as individual in the housing sector. The

Build Tech has over 40 participants, each concerned and involved in some important aspect of the human settlement movement working towards the theme of the pavilion for this year "Housing for All". In addition to live dernostration of various techniques of construction and production of building components the pavilion also demonostrates the emerging trends in production and use of building materials and technologies towards making a significant dent in the reduction of construction cost which are unaffordable to a wide section of the population, today.

A special live display of construction of a cost effective house is being demonstrated by Auroville Building centre of Tamil Nadu at the pavilion.
