US electronics-to-telecom major Motorola plans to double investments in India by the end of next year. The $28 billion (about Rs 110,000 crore) company plans to set up an integrated circuit (IC) design centre and a second software development facility in India.
The plans which are still on the drawing board will take up Motorolas investments in the country up from $50 million (Rs 180 crore) to about $100 million (approximately Rs 390 crore). The incr-eased investments will be routed through Motorola India, the 100 per cent subsidiary of Motorola Inc, Chicago.
Company executives said that plans for setting up the IC design centre were at a preliminary stage. We will have a team of semi conductor people coming in from (Motorola) Hong Kong this month, which will inspect some sites in the country, a senior executive said.
