Motorola Unveils Startac Cellphone

US telecom giant, Motorola, has announced the launch of the StarTAC cellular phone, billed as the worlds smallest and lightest global speciale mobile (GSM) - the digital cellular standard adopted by India - instrument. The cellphone will be priced at around Rs 72,000. The StarTAC weighs around 110 gms with a slim lithium ion packaged battery.

The phone also comes with some models weighing as little as 98.5 gm making it not only the smallest but also the lightest GSM phone in the world, B V Raman, executive director of Motorolas cellular subscriber group said.

An introduction into the top end of Motorola cellphones, StarTAC offers between 100 and 140 minutes talk time and 30-40 hours standby time with a Slim 500 milli-ampere hour (mAh) lithium ion battery. This rating moves up to 170-260 minutes and 55-70 hours with a Slim 900 mAh lithium ion battery pack.
