Mirroring the trend, the NSE-50 index opened at 960.75 and touched the days high of 972.40. It declined to a low of 953.95 and closed at 967.75, a net gain of 5.25 points over the previous 962.50 points. The Midcap index also firmed up by 0.13 points to 1055.49 points.
The total turnover was Rs 1391.79 crore while net traded quantity was 577.70 lakh. Reliance stood first in the turnover list with Rs 420.39 crore, followed by SBI Rs 412.87 crore, ITC Rs 306.56 crore, Tisco Rs 106.63 crore and L&T Rs 23.95 crore.
Hectic activity was also seen in ACC Rs 20.27 crore, Telco Rs 15.97 crore, Bajaj Auto Rs 9.43 crore, MTNL Rs 8.70 crore, HLL Rs 5.04 crore, Oriental Bank Rs 2.71 crore, HPCL Rs 2.02 crore, BPCL Rs 1.78 crore, Tata Power Rs 1.50 crore, Padmini Polymers Rs 1.22 crore, Dabur India Rs 1.13 crore, IPCL Rs 1.02 crore, Mafatlal Indus Rs 0.92 crore, NIIT Rs 0.90 crore, Colgate Palmolive Rs 0.88 crore, RIL Cap Rs 0.87 crore and Biofit Chem and Pharma Rs 0.83 crore.
The top five losers were UB Petroproducts, Mideast India, Navbharat Enterprises, Montari Industries and J K Pharmachem, while the losers were Kings International Aqua, Tatia Skylines, Patels Wideocom, Pan Asia Global and Compact Disc.
Meanwhile, share prices continued to fall on the Otcei due to lack of buying support. The composite index opened at 94.92, reached a high of 95.01 and closed at 94.70, decreasing by 0.23 points over the previous close.
The total turnover was Rs 24.21 lakh, involving 57,610 shares and debentures. Major contribution was from the listed debentures segment contributing Rs 16.77 lakh (5,660 debentures). Listed equity contribution was 6.87 lakh.
In listed equities active trading was seen in
K R Rubberite where 22,500 shares were traded. Pondicherry Spinners was the major gainer rising by 20 per cent while the Hindustan Biotech was the major loser falling 11 per cent over its previous days price.
