Pivotals See Gradual Decline

After an initial rally, prices of pivotals witnessed a gradual decline on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) yesterday following selling pressure from institutional investors and speculators.

Mirroring the trend, the NSE-50 index opened at 1217.40, touched the days high of 1226.60, declined to the days low of 1208.25 and closed at 1209.70, showing a net loss of 6.40 points over the previous close of 1216.10.

However, the Midcap index closed higher by 24.90 points to 1230.10 against the previous close of 1205.20. The net turnover on the NSE was reported at Rs 1,777.10 crore.

Reliance topped the turnover list registering the of Rs 355.93 crore, followed by ITC Rs 305.93 crore, Tisco Rs 302.54 crore, SBI Rs 299.27 crore, and ACC Rs 124.42 crore.

Hectic activity was also observed at the other counters led by Telco Rs 74.07 crore, L&T Rs 31.67 crore, MTNL Rs 29.90 crore, Castrol Rs 19.62 crore, Bajaj Auto Rs 16.37 crore, Colgate Rs 16.37 crore, Tata Tea Rs 16.14 crore, BSES Rs 14.13 crore, BoB Rs 6 pd up Rs 10.58 crore, HDFC Rs 9.70 crore, Hind Lever Rs 8.48 crore, ICICI Rs 6.70 crore, Bhel Rs 5.99 crore, Tata Power Rs 5.52 crore, Hindalco Rs 5.24 crore, Bank of India Rs 5.11 crore, Rel Capital Rs 5.02 crore, IFCI Rs 4.85 crore, HDFC Bank Rs 4.05 crore and Infosys Rs 4.05 crore.

The top five gainers were Reliance Capital, Glaxo India , ACC, Colgate and Ashok Leyland. The top five losers were MTNL, Tisco, ICICI, Indian Hotels and Telco.

Meanwhile, shares registered marginal gains on the Otcei. The index closed at 77.80, an increase of 0.14 points. The total turnover was Rs 20.53 lakh involving 30,000 shares and debentures. Major contribution was from the permitted equity contributing Rs 14.09 lakh (3700 shares).

Among the other segments listed debentures contributed Rs 4.61 lakh (3000 debentures) and listed equity contributed Rs 1.32 lakh (18300 shares).In listed equities active trading was seen in Vijayata Audio World where 6000 shares were traded valuing 0.20 lakh. UNI
