Pm Calls Meet On Bengal Psus

Prime Minister I K Gujral has convened a meeting of finance, industry, labour, steel and textile ministers on May 15 to discuss the plight of 20 sick Central public sector undertakings (PSUs) in West Bengal.
This was communicated by the Prime Minister to a delegation of West Bengal MPs who called on him yesterday to draw his attention to the plight of those sick units.
In a letter to Gujral, they said that the PSUs, employing about 150,000 workers, covered engineering, steel, fertiliser, textile, jute and pharmaceuticals sectors.
They avered that the workers were not getting their statutory dues like wages, gratuity and provident fund.
They said the Prime Minister responded favourably, saying that a meeting of the Union ministers of finance, industry, labour, steel, textiles and chemicals and fertilisers would be held here on May 15 to discuss the matter.
The letter was signed among others by Gurudas Das Gupta, Nilotpal Basu, Basudeb Acharia, Dipankar Mukherjee, Sandhya Bauri, Ajoy Mukhopadhaya and Subrata Mukherjee.
