Prices Down On Dull Trading

Equities moved in a narrow range on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) yesterday in dull trading as no significant change was observed. Reflecting the trend, the NSE-50 index opened at 991.05, touched the days high of 991.40, declined to low of 979.55 and closed at 985.90, showing a marginal loss of 1.20 points against the previous close of 987.10.

The Mid-Cap index also declined by 11.66 points to 1085.06 against the previous close of 1096.72. The total turnover on the NSE has amounted to Rs 1467.32 crore and traded quantity was 590.68 lakh shares.

Market leader Reliance Industries registered highest turnover of Rs 477.22 crore, followed by ITC Rs 403.95 crore, State Bank of India Rs 268.16 crore, Tisco Rs 79.71 crore and Telco Rs 59.63 crore. BSES Rs 37.78 cr, MTNL Rs 26.02 cr, L&T Rs 25.70 cr, ACC 16.11 cr, Bajaj Auto Rs 13.86 cr, Gujarat Ambuja Rs 4.61 cr, Oriental Bank Rs 3.49 cr, Hindalco Rs 2.42 cr, Tata Power Rs 1.83 cr, HPCL Rs 1.62 cr, HDFC Rs 1.50 cr, Dr Reddys Laboratories Rs 1.34 cr, HLL Rs 1.33 cr, Reliance Capital Rs 1.27 cr, Grasim Rs 1.23 cr, IPCL Rs 1.19 cr, Indian Hotels Rs 1.16 cr, Sterlite Indus Rs 1.13 cr, VSNL Rs 1.09 cr and Sundaram Finance Rs 1.01 cr also traded actively.

The top five gainers were Regency Ceramics, Somkan Marine Foods, Mahendra Suitings, Balughat Transport and India Steamship Co, while losers were Radico Khaitan, Hanilera Textiles, Growmore Solvent, Agritech hatcheries and Modi Alkalies & Chem.

Meanwhile, share prices also declined marginally on the Over The Counter Exchange of India (Otcei) following lack of buying support from investors.

The OTC composite index opened at 96.43, reached a high of 96.56 and closed at 96.19 showing an decrease of 0.35 points over the previous close of 96.54.

The total turnover reported during the day was Rs 24.79 lakh involving 52,980 shares and debentures. Major contribution was from the listed debentures segment contributing Rs 20.31 lakh (11,730 debentures). Listed equities contribution was 4 lakh.

In listed equities active trading was witnessed in Anjana Explosives where 11,000 shares were traded. Pondicherry Spinners was the major gainer during the day showing an increase of 18 per cent.
