Non-functioning of Parliament costs taxpayers Rs 126 crore in the first week

The Opposition and the ruling National Democratic Alliance have been at loggerheads over many issues since the monsoon session of Parliament began on July 21. The session ends on August 13. PRS Legislative Research, a non-profit organisation, says the Lok Sabha lost 41.23 hours of its scheduled time (48 hours) and the Rajya Sabha lost 43.4 hours of its scheduled time (47 hours) till July 31. The cost to run Parliament, former parliamentary affairs minister Pawan Bansal said in 2012, was Rs 2.50 lakh a minute. This means the total loss this time can be pegged around Rs 126.94 crore. A look at a list PRS has compiled on some major policy related work and decisions that happened in the past one month
