Som Mittal To Head Compaq, Digital In India

Taking forward its merger with Digital Equipment Corp, Compaq Computer yesterday nominated Som Mittal as managing director for the India operations of Compaq as well as Digital. Mittal was earlier managing director of Digital Equipment India.

Abhishek Mukherjee, who was managing director of Compaq Computer India, has informed the company that he is not in a position to accept alternative assignment involving relocation. Mukherjee has, however, conveyed his willingness to assist Compaq in its transition to the new organisational model.

"Compaq is now in a stronger position to meet the needs of Indian customers. The merger of the two organisations allows us to address the needs of every IT user, offering a range of products, from palm-top to fault-tolerant computers, and services from routine maintenance to turnkey outsourcing of IT operations.

"In India, we will suitably adopt the worldwide strategies and directions of Compaq to meet local requirements. The immediate objective will be to present a single customer-facing organisation. A series of initiatives has been planned to unveil our vision to customers, partners and employees," Mittal said.
