Trading Volumes Touch Rs 587.87 Crore

The reporting Friday saw deals to the tune of Rs 587.87 crore being struck in the wholesale debt market segment of the National Stock Exchange. As usual, the securities with medium and short term maturities saw the maximum number of trades.

The most actively traded security was the zero coupon security maturing in 2000 which saw trades worth Rs 148 crore. The paper saw deals for Rs 78 crore at 13.39 per cent levels. All these deals are to be settled the same day. A few other deals for Rs 30 crore were also struck at 13.23 per cent yields. These deals are to be settled after one day.

The 13.50 per cent central government security maturing in 1998 also saw some hectic trading. The security was traded for Rs 21 crore at 11.29 per cent yields. All these deals are to be settled the same day.

The 364-day treasury bill maturing on January 30, 1998 was traded for Rs 145 crore at 9.86 per cent.

The 91-day T-bill maturing on April 26 saw deals worth Rs 30 crore struck at 7.55 per cent yields. These deals are to be settled after one day and were concluded at Rs 98.29.

The State loans very also in demand as provident funds picked up securities actively. Deals were stuck in the 13.75 per cent state loans of Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Haryana, Kerala and Karnataka maturing in 2007.
