Us Firm Challenger Sets Up Subsidiary

The US-based Challenger Systems Inc has set-up a 100 per cent subsidiary in Pune to conduct its Indian operations and also support the overseas operations of the parent company.

Challenger Systems India, the local arm of Challenger Systems, US, will provide e-solutions with customer relationship management application.

The local subsidiary has targeted $5 million revenue from its first year of operation.

"In India we are hoping to get business of Rs 2.5 crore by December 2001 and is estimated to reach Rs 15 crore by the year 2005," Hemant Gandhi, president and chief executive officer of Challenger Systems Inc said.

Gandhi is an electrical engineer from Pune and prior to founding Challenger Systems worked with Fujitsu-ICIM International and was instrumental in starting its US operations in 1992.

Challenger Systems was founded in 1995 in San Jose, California and has seen rapid growth in revenue from $2.1 million during the year 1996-97 to $13 million in 1999. The turnover of the company is targeted to double to $26 million in the current year.

Challenger Systems has founded its business in CRM one-to-one e-personalisation and business intelligence through its partnerships with leaders in their respective areas. The company has partnership with PeopleSoft, Broad Vision and Broadbase.

The Company's Indian operations will focus on supporting the needs of its worldwide customers and partners in the areas of: projects, technical support, sustaining engineering, consulting in Asia, Pacific, Europe and Japan in implementation and development engineering and software labs for customers.

"Pune was a natural choice for us to launch our Indian operations as it has a tremendous pool of highly qualified people who are looking for challenging avenues and goals. Our local unit hopes to create the opportunities and facilities which will help Pune's talent in IT field to achieve their most treasured career goals," Gandhi said.

The Pune office has been opened chose on the heels of opening offices in Dallas and Boston in the current year as part of the company's high profile growth strategy.

The Pune facility has over 50 engineers working for it and is an enhanced replica of Challenger's San Jose office.

As part of Challenger system's social commitment, Gandhi said they believed in sharing growth of the company with the community and will contribute for the training and welfare of mentally affected children.
