All India Insurance Employees Association has decided to observe a two-hour walk out strike in all offices of General Insurance Corporation and Life Insurance Corporation today. It will be followed by a token one-day strike, the date for which will be announced later, the association said. It has also decided to hold a convention along with other trade unions to voice opposition to the Insurance Regulatory Authority Bill which is pending in Parliament. The convention will be followed by a march to Parliament during the current session, according to a release issued by the association.

The association has sent telegrams to the Prime Minister and finance minister demanding that the bill be withdrawn. It has also sent out appeals to all political parties to oppose the bill . because, it says, the creation of IRA is meant to prepare the ground for inviting foreign insurance companies in the country.
