Whirpool of India registered a 16.36 per cent fall in the previous week as it closed its Faridabad plant. The sluggish conditions in the consumer durables market is cited as the main reason for huge inventory pile-up of around 80,000- 90,000 refrigerators.

Most white goods manufacturing companies had high expectations of demand revival after the Fifth Pay Commission recommendations were implemented. However, this has not materialised despite the receipt of first part of the arrears by the central government employees.
